French shoe designer Christian Louboutin told an interviewer a couple of months ago that there” ain’t no heel high enough.” Indeed,Louboutin whose shoes can run more than $ 1,000 a pair,is credited with bringing stiletto back in the ’90s.
But the hot selling fashion ( there is a whole cottage industry of Louboutin fakes and kickoffs) is cahanging women’s leg muscels. After years of women’s complaints that high heels can be a pain, some researchers actually used an MRI to explain why.The study is published in the journal of Experimental Biology.
Wearing 2-inch heels for two years shrink calf muscle fibres by about 13 percent, the Eueopean researhers found. What’s more, the tendons that attach the calf muscle to the heel were muchthicker and stiffer in the high-heel wearing women, compared with women who wore flats. These women were able to walk normally in high heels but felt discomfort in other shoes because tendons can’t strtch properly.
Macro Narici from Manchester Metropolitan University says, anecdotal evidence over many decades suggested that something changed in women’s legs as a result of wearing heels. He wanted to find the reaason.” It was an experiment which was inadvertantly being done by women” Narici says.
