When at the airport the thought of security safety hardly penetrates your mind.Your concern is focused more on the safety of your travel bags than your own safety. You are also concerned about the time you may have to waste away inside the airport before boarding a plane to your destination-again not mindful of your own safety at airport security. It never crosses your mind how scary your experience can be if some mishap occurs due to your own negligence , inside an airport.
Following two examples of true stories that happened at airports could well illustrate the importance of airport security safety.
A screener in checked baggage at a high-powered x-ray machine, much bigger than what you see at checkpoint. While the x-ray machine was running ,she leaned over the belt to get a better view of an obstruction and was sucked into the x-ray machine with her legs dangling out.She survived with a minor concussion.
An x-ray machine has a belt in each side -one to load and one to off load.Yet another screener was at checkpoint near the off load belt, taking the bags off. The screeners gloves got caught and his hand was pulled underneath the belt. The x- belt was stopped immediately, and the screener escaped with minor cuts and bruises.
In both cases the screener did’nt exercise safety. They were not focused on the job and met with accidents as a result. They could have been seriously hurt or maimed.Could’nt this happen to you or your children?.
The moving parts of an x-ray machine are dangerous.Exercise caution and keep your loose clothes and body parts away from the moving parts of the machine such the belt and the rollers. Also never stick your hand in the x-ray machine to retrive an item.Let it go through and collect it on the other side. You dont want to be exposed to radiation.
Do not hesitate to report potential dangers that you may come across during your travels.
Never stop by the belt to put on your footwear becuase with everyone hovering about in one area ,an accidental contact may throw you toward the belt.
If you leave your bin on the x-ray belt you may cause several bins to collide and crash causing items to fly about and even hitting another passanger before spilling onto the floor.
Screeners are there to help you in expediting your job at the airport.
A summery of secuirty safety tips:
1. Allow the screener to off load your items
2. Keep children away from the roller belts.
3. Do not touch any moving part of the x-ray machine
4. Pick up your bins and prevent crashing of bins.
5. Report potential hazards that you notice to the authorities
6. Report objects lying in the passanger path that
can cause problems
7. Report offensive odors or water/liquid spillage
8. Report uncovered cords on the floor.
