Summer time is still on and the grass will continuue to be green and grow that needs to be mowed every now often. Alas, in it’s overzealouness and partly carelessness in operation tend to make many people hurry their way to the nearest health clinics in search of medical assistance for lawnmower related injuries.
More often than not, most people use lawnmowers as part of their job. They follow the safety rules ,such as wearing steel toe boots and goggles. But this is not the case in many homes. How often, do you see during summer evenings people mowing their lawns in sandles with children playing about closely in their gleeful innocence. At times even adults poke their hands under a seemingly harmless machine while running in an attempt to retrive an object. The result can be extremely painful.
Lawnmowers can be dangerous when handled carelessly that makes it important for handlers to have a familiarization with their operational instructions.
Though newer models of lawnmowers are equiped with enhanced safety ,ultimately no safety feature is foolproof.Always treat lawnmowers with respect.
Whether you use a gas, electric, riding or push mower, always be mindful of the following tips.
1. Read the manufacturer’s guide for a familiarization with its features.
2. Clear the lawn of loose objects such as rocks, splinters, bottle tops etc.A lawnmower on contact can hurl such objects to several meters at great speed and can hurt anybody.Keep kids at a safe distance away.
3. Do not wear sandles or go barefoot when you mow.Always opt for steel toed shoes which gives perfect foot protection and goggles to protect your eyes.
4. Lawnmowers are noisious and irritating to the ear that can adversely impinge on the mowing activity itself, besides it’s likely possible harm to the hearing organs.
5. Cut the grass when dry.Wet grass tend to clog and slow down the mower. Also wetness in the grass can lead to shocks with electric mowers.
6. Fueling should be done when the mower is cool.Avoid smoking while filling the mower.Avoid filling gas up to the mouth to prevent spillage.Spilled gasoline should first evaporate before starting the mower.
7. If you’re using a riding mower do not take extra riders. These machines are not meant to carry passengers.
